Some Hog Barn Regulations Lifted

Manitoba's hog producers are no longer required to install anaerobic digesters when building a new barn.

It's just one of the moves made the province last week to reduce industry red tape.

Speaking to CKLQ, Manitoba Pork Council General Manger Andrew Dickson also put to rest any environmental fears.

"The legislature and regulations to protect water courses are all still in place, it's illegal to have producers to let manure run off their land and into water, it's all just fear-mongering at it's worst,"

The move has a big financial impacts as the digesters can cost well above 1-Million dollars.

He says all other permit requirements for manure storage and handling will remain in effect.
