Wheat Kings Trade Papirny

The Brandon Wheat Kings made a splash yesterday at the WHL trade deadline.

The club traded goaltender Jordan Papirny to the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for 19 year old goaltender Travis Child and 19 year old defenseman Kade Jensen.

They then flipped defenseman Jordan Wharrie to Vancouver for 20 year old Russian defenseman Dmitry Osipov.

General Manager Grant Armstrong says "This is a hockey deal. I really stress that this is about making our hockey club better. At some point you have to do things that hurt. But the big part of it is we're trying to make our hockey team better today to take on the task of being a strong hockey club into the second half and into the playoffs."

Armstrong adds trading a fan favourite is never an easy task, "Paps was also one of the most loyal, popular Wheat Kings. We needed to get him into a situation where he could be a number 1 guy and with the rise in the play of Logan Thompson we just thought we had to make this deal."

In the deal the club also sent a 4th round pick in 2018 to Swift current and acquired a 2nd and 5th round pick in 2019.

There is no word yet if any of the new faces will be in the lineup tonight when the Wheat Kings host the Tri-City Americans.

Game time is 7:00 at Westman Place.

The CKLQ pre-game show with Branden Crowe begins at 6:30.
