Wheaties Lose Third Straight

The Brandon Wheat Kings losing streak hit three games on Wednesday night in Prince Albert.

The Wheat Kings fell 5-3 to the Raiders in front of just over 1800 fans at the Art Hauser Centre.

Coming off the tough 3-1 loss in Moose Jaw the night before, the Wheat Kings were looking for a quick response and they got one from Ty Lewis.

The Brandonite opened the scoring just 0:46 into the first period to give the Wheat Kings the early lead.

Midway thru the 1st, the Wheat Kings found themselves in penalty trouble and took back to back minors which led to a Curtis Miske power play goal to tie things up at 1.

With less than 1:00 to go, Nolan Patrick would pot his 13th of the year off the bar and in to give Brandon a 2-1 lead.

Despite the late goal, the Raiders were quick to respond and tied things up just 32 seconds later as Tim Vanstone slipped one five hole on Logan Thompson.

Thompson, who was making his 2nd straight start turned aside 30 shots in the losing effort.

After the teams exchanged 2nd period goals, the Raiders would take another lead early in the 3rd as Parker Kelly found himself all alone in front and chipped home his 12th of the season.

Simon Stransky would seal the Wheat Kings fate with an empty netter in the final minute of play, securing the Raiders 15th win of the season.

Nick Sanders was solid between the pipes for the Raiders, making 22 saves for his 2nd straight victory.

Good news for the Wheat Kings however, the Swift Current Broncos also lost tonight keeping the race for 3rd place in the division at 5 points.

Brandon will look to hit the reset button on Friday when they welcome Regina to kick off a two game home stand.
