Playoffs Begin Tonight at HLC

An historic night is on the horizon at the Healthy Living Centre.

The Brandon University men's basketball team will be hosting their first ever playoff game at the HLC against Thompson Rivers.

8 years removed from their last playoff appearance coach Gil Cheung tells CKLQ post season experience is a non factor, "our guys have a lot of basketball experience, is it any different come the weekend? I don't think so but you can play it up any way you like."

For 5th year Esmat Atem he just can't wait to get the game underway, "Being my last season going out with a bang, I'm very excited."

It's been quite the season for the Bobcats who swept their final regular season season to claim a playoff spot and finish 9-11.

That's a vast improvement over last years 1-19 mark and the best the team has had under Cheung.

Veteran Earl Thompson Junior says the team really grew as the season went on, "biggest problem in previous years is we weren't learning and getting better. This year we learned, got better, and are in the playoffs."

Tip off tonight is 7:00 at the HLC and graduating guard Chris Stanhope notes he's looking forward to a big crowd, "Hoping we can get a nice crowd out, feed off the energy, and come out and get 2 W's."
