Oswald Steals Game 1 From Wildcats

The Westman Wildcats couldn't get past Pembina Valley Hawks goaltender Halle Oswald in Game 1 of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League final.

Pembina Valley won the game 3-0 to take the early series lead 1-0.

The Hawks scored the first two goals in the second period, and then shut the door the rest of the way to secure a victory.

Pembina Valley's Karsty Nicolajsen scored the first goal midway through the second period. It was then followed by a goal by Makenzie Mccallum to pad the lead.

The third goal was an empty net scored by Mackenzie Hutchinson.

The Wildcats had some good chances on Oswald but after a few shaky saves to start the game, she was stellar throughout the game.

She ended up stopping 31 shots in the game.

In the third period, the Wildcats were putting the pressure on the Hawks but come up short time and time again.

Westman had two power plays in the game, but the second advantage was cut short after their own penalty.

Next game between the two teams is Friday in Morden at 7:45.
