BREAKING: Schenn to undergo MRI Print E-mail
According to the LA Kings Insider, Wheat Kings' captain Brayden Schenn will undergo an MRI on his knee Thursday in Los Angeles. Schenn apparently suffered a knee injury during the Wheat Kings' training camp, and did leave the club's practice Tuesday at Westman Communications Group Place prior to its completion. Schenn is scheduled to fly to Los Angeles on Thursday and, according to the report, there is no timetable for his return to the ice at the moment.

- Brandon Wheat Kings season ticket holders can get their new ticket packages on Thursday in the southend park lot of the Keystone Centre. Fans wanting more information or looking to buy season tickets can swing by between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. As of Tuesday, just over 2,300 season tickets had been sold for the upcoming campaign.

- The Rural Manitoba Football League will be a five team circuit for 2010 season with the Stonewall Rams and the Neelin Spartans JV squad not returning. The defending champion Dauphin Clippers, Virden Golden Bears, Souris Sabres, Neepawa Tigers and Parkwest Outlaws are competing in the RMFL this year. The regular season gets underway on Friday.

- Brandon's Curtis Demarce is ready to make his Maximum Fighting Championship debut. Demarce is taking on Tyson Steele of Saskatoon on Friday at MFC: 26 Retribution in Edmonton. The event was originally set to take place in the Wheat City. Demarce has a record of 7-2 while Steele is a perfect 6-0.

- The Brandon Bluefins swim club is getting ready to jump back into the pool. Registration for the club is taking place Wednesday and Thursday night from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Sportsplex. The club will host two major events this season. The annual Halloween meet takes place Cctober 30th and 31st while the Junior Provincials will be hosted by the Bluefins from March 4th to 6th.

Wednesday's Sports Briefs Print E-mail

- The Brandon Bobcats have put the finishing touches on their recruiting class for this season.  The newest members of the BU Men's basketball team are 6-foot-7 post Brody Tagg, point guard William Caesar and Carleton transfer David Antwi.  The Bobcats have already opened training camp and will see their first game action in 10 days.

- Corbin Boes is staying out of the limelight.  The 17-year old Saskatoon product is one of five netminders still with the Brandon Wheat Kings but has stayed under the radar as the focus has been on top prospect Liam Liston and 20-year olds Andrew Hayes and Jacob De Serres.  Boes says he came to camp wanting to do his best and he's glad he's made it onto Brandon's pre-season roster.  The Wheat Kings open their pre-season schedule Friday when they visit the Regina Pats.

- The Waywayseecappo Wolverines open their pre-season schedule Wednesday night, as they entertain the SJHL's Melville Millionaires.  The Wolverines still have 32 players on their pre-season roster -- 18 forwards, nine defencemen and five goaltenders.

- The Winnipeg High School Football League regular season gets underway Wednesday with the Neelin Spartans visiting the Portage Trojans.  Neelin had a 4-2-1 record a year ago but return just six players from last year's squad.  Vincent Massey and Crocus Plains will both open their regular seasons later this week.

- A team from the Shilo Golf Club captured Golf Manitoba's Women's Interclub B Championship Tuesday.  The foursome of Dawn Choy, Carol Rudy, Susan Ash and Judy Prange finished with a net score of 242, three strokes ahead of the team from Carman.  Meanwhile, a Shilo foursome also finished in a tie for fourth-place at the Men's Senior Interclub Championship yesterday.

- Video gamers were in their glory Tuesday as EA Sports NHL11 hit store shelves.  This year's version has all the teams in the Canadian Hockey League including the Brandon Wheat Kings and EB Games manager Bryce Todorovich they had a lot of sales on the first day.  He adds many of those buying the game are excited about playing as the Wheat Kings.
